Bishop Hendricken High School, RI
Life is a jigsaw puzzle. The college search can be described as many pieces in a chaotic pile that must be sifted through. As I drove with my family to my 10:00 tour in late July, I envisioned where I would find the next piece to my puzzle, and to my amazement, St. Michael’s College is that piece. Valentina Rojas, my tour guide, led me around campus and told me about her experience at St. Michael’s. She started with the founding of St. Michael’s by the Edmundites, an order that focuses on serving and providing for those in need. Since my freshman year at Bishop Hendricken, I have assisted, coached, and bonded with athletes of Special Olympics RI and hope to continue my efforts, but under the Edmundite guidance. The St. Michael’s College Fire and Rescue department is what I saw as the towering example of the Edmundite vision. After I toured the firehouse, I knew that I wanted to be a member of their family. The community of St. Michael’s College cannot be bound by campus limits, as service opportunities, as well as the Fire and Rescue are examples of how it extends to the surrounding area. Upon leaving campus, I had a smile on my face; knowing that the jigsaw puzzle, whose pieces were once scattered, had been seamlessly put together. The opportunities for service, as well as the rigorous academics and vibrant community, came together on the imaginary tabletop, and spelled out “St. Michael’s College”.
